Kendama refers to a Japanese game of skill. The Kendama is made up of a wooden ball (Jap.: dama) which is attached to a wooden handle (Jap.: ken) by a string. It has three cups of different sizes and a spike to catch the ball. The goal is to swing the ball into a cup, or have it land on the spike on top of the "ken" (the ball has a small hole for it).
Sounds easy, but mastering the kendama takes skill which takes plenty of practice and patience. Tricks include "Around Japan," in which the ball is flicked onto the big cup, then the little cup, and finally lands on the spike.
Knotty Toys has a great selection of Kendamas - stripes, faces, colours and unpainted!Recommended Ages: 7 to Adult
